An Introduction to Networking

Joni Clark

This interactive workshop, developed by Transitions and Transformations: The Black Researcher’s Journey — one of the 13 Research England-funded projects focused on racial equity and access to postgraduate education — and The Diversity Trust, focuses supporting and encouraging postgraduates to understand networking and how they can feel confident in it.

By the end of this session, users will be able to:

  • Define what Networking is and what can prevent us from doing it
  • Feel at ease in different types of networking, such as online networking
  • Explore how to connect with, build, and maintain network contacts
  • Understand relationship networking
  • Understand and use techniques such as SMART and positioning statement to network more successfully
