Research England/Office for Students — 13 projects to support racial equity in postgraduate education

Under the auspices of Research England and the OfS, we worked with 13 EDI projects to gather outputs and upload them to our website. As part of the work, our resource library was redesigned to improve functionality, and the items were added and disseminated widely throughout our networks. Please visit our resource library to browse the materials.

As the national representative body for postgraduate education and research, the UKCGE is an excellent organisation to partner with. They are well established, have an existing platform, and part of their remit is to share best practice to support a strong and sustainable postgraduate sector. Working with them in the dissemination of the resources and learnings from the RE&OfS PGR Programme enables us to amplify the valuable work projects have done and thereby maximise the impact of the programme through making their resources accessible and discoverable to a wider audience.
Marie-Helene Nienaltowski (Research England).
I am delighted to see the resources developed by the YCEDE project are now featured within the UKCGE’s national suite. This transition from project-specific outputs to a centralised, accessible repository is a vital step in ensuring the longevity and impact of our work on racial equity. It is equally encouraging to see our contributions sit alongside the diverse and brilliant resources from the other OfS and Research England-funded projects. This collective body of work provides the Higher Education sector with a robust, evidence-based toolkit to dismantle barriers and foster a more equitable doctoral environment. We look forward to seeing how these shared insights will drive institutional change across the UK.

UKRI-Commissioned Report on Research Supervision

In April 2022, UKRI commissioned us to conduct a series of six focus groups involving a variety of different stakeholders involved in doctoral supervision, across all UKRI research disciplines.

A principal aim of the workshops was to establish how UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) could better support research supervision, and in particular whether it would be helpful for UKRI to publish a statement of expectations for research supervison’. The work included a handful of recommendations, as summarised below.
