Barriers to Black PhD Students – A reflection on progress and the work that still needs to be done
In 2019, Leading Routes: “The Broken Pipeline – Barriers to Black PhD Students Accessing Research Council Funding” report highlighted significant barriers faced by Black PhD students in accessing research council funding in the UK. Five years later, it’s important to reflect on the progress made and identify areas where challenges still persist. This resource by YCEDE provides an overview of some of the developments and ongoing challenges from across the sector.

Rubrics and Holistic Review in Doctoral Admissions
In this video, Bukola Oyinloye and Paul Wakeling from YCEDE discuss the use of rubrics and holistic review in doctoral selection and admission. The use of assessment rubrics and criteria for selection which try to assess an applicant’s wider set of PhD-relevant skills is one means to support fairer and more equitable doctoral recruitment.
