Results from the Higher Education Academy’s Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) 2013 show that postgraduate researchers in the UK can expect a high quality experience, with 82% of students satisfied overall. -
Postgraduate research degree qualification rates improving
A report published by HEFCE presents projected rates of qualification for a cohort of students studying for postgraduate research degrees. Data on students who began their studies in 2010-11 show that their projected completion rates are higher than equivalent rates for students beginning postgraduate research degrees in recent years. -

Views are invited on the open access proposals for the post-2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF). -
£25 million fund to stimulate postgraduate study
HEFCE is inviting universities and colleges to bid for a share of a £25 million fund, to test different ways of stimulating postgraduate education. -
UKCGE Chair formally appointed to EUA CDE steering committee
UK Council for Graduate Education Chair Prof Mick Fuller has been formally appointed to the European Universities Association Council for Doctoral Education steering committee from the 1st July 2013. -
Election Results for the UK Council for Graduate Education
There were three vacancies on the committee this year and six were received by the Council so a postal ballot took place in June 2013. The results were announced at the Annual Conference 2013, held this year at Maple House, Birmingham. -
Spending Review 2013
Key take home points from the spending review released today are that department for BIS is down 5.9% in general spend and regard to capital growth, BIS CDEL rises by 8.7% in real terms (excluding financial transactions). Other important issues raised in the paper include reforms to national scholarship funding scheme and further commitment from the government to deliver ‘its ambition’ of a world leading research base for science and innovation. -
Professor Rosemary Deem awarded OBE in Queen’s Birthday Honours
Professor Rosemary Deem, UKCGE Executive Committee Member, and Vice-Principal for Education at Royal Holloway has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for her services to Higher Education and Social Science.
