UKCGE Chair formally appointed to EUA CDE steering committee
EUA-CDE was established in 2008. It creates a strong voice for European universities on doctoral education both inside Europe and internationally and contributes to enhancing the visibility of doctoral/graduate/research schools and programmes.
It builds on the outcomes of EUA’s policy and project work on doctoral education and research careers, and seeks to respond to growing demand from members for a more structured supporting framework and additional opportunities to promote cooperation and exchange of good practice on issues of common concern related to the organisation and quality of doctoral education in universities across Europe.
Simialr to UKCGE, the activities of the EUA-CDE are managed independently through a Steering Committee (SC). The members of the SC are formally appointed by the EUA Board but unlike UKCGE, a member of the EUA Board serves as an ex-officio member of the Steering Committee. The Chair of the Steering Committee Prof Melita Kovacevic from the University of Zagreb works closely with the EUA Secretariat in managing the day to day affairs of the Council.
Prof Mick Fuller, UKCGE Chair said:
‘I am very much looking forward to building bridges between both councils for the benefit of member institutions and doctoral education in general.’
Thomas Jorgensen, Head of EUA-CDE Unit said:
‘Professor Fuller has long been involved with EUA-CDE activities. He has participated in a EUA-CDE events and been particularly active in the CODOC project which has focussed on doctoral education in the global perspective. His wide knowledge of doctoral education from institutional management to global trends is certain to be a great asset for the Steering Committee.’
