UKCGE Member’s open invitation to STEM PhD students for ‘immersive entrepreneurial training’
The University of Gloucestershire would like to invite STEM PhD Students (or recent graduates since 2013) to join a free SCIENT programme starting on 11th July 2016 near its Gloucester campus.
The SCIENT programme which has 15 spaces remaining is designed to encourage entrepreneurial activity amongst scientific PhD students and graduates through 20 hours of coaching, exposure to and connections with real entrepreneurs and a potential internship with an entrepreneurial company in the UK.
The programme is part of the University’s work to boost economic wellbeing in the county and is part of a larger SCIENT project which has secured over 80,000 Euros of funding to date. At the centre of the project will be a study of existing entrepreneurial programmes, accelerators and hubs in the EU and beyond. The output will be a top quality pre-accelerator programme for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) students. Ultimately the programme will aim to encourage and develop Gloucestershire student’s scientific ideas into viable, thriving businesses.
Laura Crabb, Director of Business Development for the University of Gloucestershire commented:
“This is excellent news for Gloucestershire and continues the University’s excellent track record in securing funding to benefit the local economy and create wealth in the county. Gloucestershire already has an enviable reputation for the practical application of scientific knowledge in the engineering and manufacturing sector. By securing this funding we will help create the next generation of young entrepreneurs with scientific knowledge”.
The programme, is being delivered through the Growth Hub – a partnership between the University of Gloucestershire and GFirst LEP. As part of the programme, the University of Gloucester is keen to invite postgraduate students from other UKCGE membership institutions to engage in the opportunity.
