Graduate School Managers Network Launches at Imperial
Graduate School Managers Network Launches at Imperial
Over 40 Graduate School Managers (and related positions) came together at Imperial College London’s 170 Queensgate venue to officially launch the UKCGE Graduate School Managers Network.
Originally designated a single seminar, the meeting was forced to extend into two separate seminars (morning and afternoon) to meet demand from Council’s membership institutions. The event began with an opening welcome from Dr Catherine Mills, Head of the Graduate School at Manchester Metropolitan University, and UKCGE Executive Committee member. This was followed by a presentation from Laura McConnell, Graduate School Manager at Imperial College London on her role at the institution, which led into extended discussion on current issues in graduate schools and postgraduate education more widely. Each seminar concluded with a focus on setting a future direction for the network, leading into the 2016 Annual Conference in Liverpool, and a full day workshop in autumn.

Related to the Council’s Deans and Directors Graduate School’s (DDoGS) network, the Graduate School Managers (GSM) Network enables sharing of information and expertise, the facilitation of mentoring, the consideration of best practice and discussion of any topic within the postgraduate community.
The GSM Network warmly invites colleagues to join its community. As a Graduate School Manager (or similar), you can subscribe to the network through the UKCGE website enabling access to the online forum and receive its separate quarterly newsletter.
Dr Catherine Mills, Vice Chair of the Network said,
“This network has been needed for some time. It was a really enjoyable event to be a part of and there was lots of enthusiasm in the room across both sessions to move the network forward. Thank you to Imperial for hosting the meeting and thank you to PhD Manager for supporting the network this far. We look forward to welcoming colleagues to Liverpool for the GSM Symposium at the 2016 Annual Conference.”
