2015 Annual Conference Launched
The UK Council for Graduate Education is pleased to open the call for papers for the 2015 Annual Conference which takes place on the 2nd and 3rd of July in Glasgow.
The conference title ‘Beyond the Ivory Tower: creating & sustaining postgraduate networks, and communities in contemporary global universities’ emphases the significance of wholeheartedly supporting the postgraduate journey and embodies UKCGE’s overarching mission to support and promote a strong and sustainable postgraduate sector.
The Council’s key annual meeting, which brings together colleagues from across the postgraduate community, is being held at Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel. Staying true to tradition, the conference will facilitate extensive opportunities for networking and sharing good practice.
Annual Conference organisers have identified the following key themes for the event:
- Case studies of postgraduate communities & networks in institutional, inter-institutional and/or international contexts;
- The roles of academics and administrators in creating and sustaining postgraduate communities;
- How do different academic disciplines and/or multi-disciplinary doctoral training partnerships shape postgraduate communities?
- Postgraduate networks, cohorts and face to face/virtual communities: student perspectives;
- How can postgraduate communities prepare students for future employment and citizenship?
- Enhancing diversity and tackling inequality in postgraduate communities;
UKCGE Chair elect, Professor Rosemary Deem said:
“‘The conference theme relates to a current debate about how to ensure that postgraduate research students are not left isolated during their studies and we look forward to national and international delegates and presenters telling us how they think networks, communities and cohorts help overcome isolation and contribute to a positive student experience and successful and timely thesis submission”
Angus Burns UKCGE Events Officer said:
“We had a fantastic response to our call for papers to last year’s Annual Conference, with more than 40 papers submitted. We hope that this year’s event will be equally, if not more, successful and we look forward to receiving submissions from colleagues across the UK and beyond.”
