Distance Learning Doctorates
This online workshop, jointly hosted by all three UKCGE Professional Networks, will offer a holistic overview of supporting doctoral candidates who are undertaking distance learning doctorates.
The workshop will open with a scene-setting presentation from Freda Mold (University of Surrey) which will outline the rationale, development process, and institutional learning associated with establishing a PhD by Distance (PhD‑D) programme in the School of Health Sciences. Drawing on staff consultation, a funded mobility visit to an established provider, and structured feedback from supervisors and postgraduate researchers, it will highlight key considerations for programme design, supervision, research culture, and support infrastructure in distance doctoral provision, culminating in reflections and next steps following Senate approval for implementation in October 2026.
The session will also include discussions led by colleagues from the following Networks — giving attendees a broad overview of the issues.
