About UKCGE

Established in 1994, the UK Council for Graduate Education is the national representative body for postgraduate education and research.

We are also an independent membership organisation and Registered Charity (No. 1061495). We believe our mission is best served by a community of practice ethos, captured in our motto: by the sector, for the sector. Our values are mutuality, openness, collegiality and joint enterprise.

What We Do

We bring together those responsible for leading, supervising, supporting, researching and shaping postgraduate education across the UK. We create impact through convening, brokerage, evidence and insight, knowledge exchange and capacity building, and collective leadership, advocacy and influence.

Why We Do It

A postgraduate sector that is recognised, prioritised and valued for its contribution to society, the economy, research, innovation and advanced skills: that is our vision. We exist to strengthen postgraduate education through collective leadership, shared knowledge and evidence-informed practice.

Who We Work With

Our impact comes from the collective expertise, relationships, credibility and commitment of our members, trustees, volunteers and partners. We advocate for postgraduate education to funders and policy makers, creating value by leveraging the social capital that exists across the postgraduate community.

How We Do It

Given our size and resources, UKCGE focusses on activities that maximise the value of our networks, credibility and collective expertise: convening, brokerage, evidence synthesis, knowledge exchange and partnership working: creating the conditions through which postgraduate education can flourish.
