UKCGE Chair gives evidence to House of Lords Select Committee

Professor Mick Fuller, Head of Plymouth University Graduate School and Chair of UKCGE yesterday (18th March 2014) gave evidence to the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee.

Professor Fuller was called to give evidence for a short inquiry into the effect on international science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) students of immigration policy’. Ahead of the Council’s first Executive Committee meeting of 2014, Professor Fuller pointed out that UK universities have responded magnificently to the UKBA restrictions’ and commended the work of international units within UK HEIs.

Professor Fuller also highlighted that the value of the mission far outweighed the value of funding in regard to the key driver of engaging international science, technology, engineering and mathematics students with UK Higher Education.

Also giving evidence to the committee were the Minister of State for Universities and Science, David Willetts MP an the Minister of State for Immigration and Security, James Brokenshire MP, on widespread concern’ over the effects of immigration policies on student numbers.
