Recruiting: Graduate Education Managers Network Co-Chair

The UK Council for Graduate Education is seeking a Co-Chair for the Graduate Education Managers Network

The successful applicant will have wide-ranging knowledge of post-graduate education and in particular the challenges facing Doctoral College Managers, Managers of Doctoral Training Partnerships and of Centres for Doctoral Training.

Nominees should be able to advise on how the UKCGE GEM Network can help to support the development of best practice in the light of the current priorities for Graduate Education.

Being a Co-Chair of this network has been a fantastic experience — not only has it allowed me to help shape the agenda of the Graduate Education Managers network, it has also given me a great view of the whole sector, allowed me to meet some wonderful colleagues and given a fascinating insight into the work of UKCGE
Dr Ross English, University of Brighton

What being a Co-Chair of the GEM network involves

The Co-Chair of the Graduate Education Managers Network is a voluntary role, appointed by UKCGE trustees. The purpose of the role is to create and facilitate a forum for inter-institutional collaboration and exchange for people in similar roles elsewhere.

The Graduate Education Managers Network meets face-to-face at least twice a year — once for a stand-alone workshop, and once at a Symposium during the UKCGE Annual Conference. This requires the Co-Chair of the Network to be willing to design, plan and facilitate these meetings, which may also take place at the Co-Chair’s own institution.

Additionally, the GEM network meets for regular 1‑hour online discussions, which are led by network Co-Chairs.

The Co-Chair of the Graduate Education Managers Network can therefore expect to spend at least 6 days per year in planning and hosting Network meetings, and in writing content for the GEM Newsletter.

Expressions of interest welcomed

The Council particularly welcomes experienced Doctoral College Managers, Managers of Doctoral Training Partnerships or Centres for Doctoral Training.

This network has been a vital resource in supporting colleagues working in DTP and CDT management roles to build a cross-sector network and collective voice – it is a fantastic vehicle for practice sharing and developing your thinking.
Rachel Van Krimpen, University of Nottingham
