More ‘LINKS’ made at Nottingham
LINK is a Student-Led Interdisciplinary Research Conference at the University of Nottingham.
Conceived by University of Nottingham Postgraduate students in 2015, LINK is a research showcase like no other; the academia, without the pressures of academia. LINK16 is the second in the legacy of the LINK series designed to allow Postgraduate students – regardless of their level of their research – to present their work to both fellow students as well as the broader academic community. It not only serves as a common forum for Postgraduates from all disciplines to showcase their research, but also offers the opportunity for networking in a friendly, accessible environment.
Hosted at the East Midlands Conference Centre on the 3rd of June, LINK’16 provided over 100 postgraduate students with a platform to gain insights into the current research subjects carried out across the University by our future leaders. Professor Liz Sockett from Nottingham’s School of Life Sciences gave a well-received key note session, in which she likened Research to “a fast flowing River, with researchers represented as the diverse community of ducks that paddle within it.”
Elliott Denham, the University of Nottingham Students’ Union Postgraduate Officer said
“LINK’16 has built upon a solid foundation set last year and gained incredible momentum in promoting the Students’ Union offer to Postgraduate students, whatever stage of their research. The conference truly aligns with our strategy in enhancing both the career prospects and academic experience of our students.
I am phenomenally impressed with the quality of research our students are engaged in; a credit to their dedication and hard work. The event itself ran suspiciously smoothly, and that is down to the commitment of the student volunteers who organised everything from funding through to marketing. For them, I am truly thankful. Hopefully LINK’16 raised the profile of research within our student body and set the bar for next year’s LINK’17!”
Images of LINK’16 are now available for UKCGE members to view and more details of the event, as well as link’17 can be found at the series website www.linkuon.co.uk.
