International Conference on Developments in Doctoral Education and Training keeps the light burning
The first International Conference on Developments in Doctoral Education and Training (ICDDET) held at The Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh on the 11th and 12th of April, was attended by over 125 colleagues from across the postgraduate sector, representing forteen countries over four different continents. Noteable keynotes included Prof Dina Iordanova (University of St Andrews) discussing her Experiences of International Doctoral Training and Development, Dr George Walker (Cleveland State University) presenting the Carnegie Initiative on the Doctorate and Dr Margaret Kiley (The Australian National University) exploring the Doctoral Curriculumin Austrailia: Who? What? How? Other keynotes included Dr Alexandra Bitusikova (EUA, Belgium & Matej Bel University), Dr Janet Metcalfe (Vitae) and Slobodan Radicev (Eurodoc). All keynotes from ICDDET are available to watch through the video resources section on the UKCGE website (member only).
UKCGE Chair Prof Mick Fuller closed the conference, concluding the event had ‘stimulated, entertained and intriegued delegates, but more importantly kept alight the fire of enquiry. This conference exhibits the passion to continue to learn, to think and deliver the best possible experience for postgraduate students in the United Kingdom and around the world’.

Following the success and post event interest of ICDDET, UKCGE will be publishing a ‘Conference Proceedings’ document into a range of formats for release at the 2013 UKCGE Annual Conference in Birmingham. The council is looking forward to facilitating a similar engaging atmosphere and delegate experience exploring the changing face of PGT in a research-intensive environment.
