Deans & Directors of Graduate Schools — Residential Workshop 2023
The annual UKCGE Residential Workshop features a variety of sessions, providing Deans and Directors of Graduate Schools, and those in similar positions, the opportunity to network with peers and discuss the key issues affecting postgraduate education.
The Deans and Directors of Graduate Schools residential provides an invaluable opportunity to spend focused time with a peer community which rarely meets in person. Stepping back from day to day pressures, this 24-hr event is designed to:
Facilitate creative & innovative thinking in a supportive, expert environment
Stimulated by expert speakers, you will grapple with questions addressing the future of the PhD – new models for PhD programmes, online education, funding, impact and more. We will help you to consider the big picture and ask the questions you can’t normally ask!
Enable peer-to-peer learning and sharing of experiences
Few people in our individual institutions appreciate the particular challenges and pressures we face. This network enables you to keep up to speed with current & future issues in doctoral education, compare your practices and draw on the many years of experience within the group. We deeply value the support & guidance the group provides, whether the chance to sense-check a response to a thorny issue or share policies confidentially.
We will give you food for thought – ideas to take back to your institutions. Our confirmed speakers will help us consider how doctoral education has changed & evolved in recent years and imagine what the future of the PhD might look like. We will reflect both on the UK PhD, as UKRI devises its New Deal, and take a global perspective.
