The annual UKCGE Residential Workshop features a variety of sessions, providing Deans and Directors of Graduate Schools, and those in similar positions, the opportunity to network with peers and discuss the key issues affecting postgraduate education.

The first topic under discussion at this workshop is how to ensure equity, diversity and inclusion for PGRs, particularly those from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. This was recently the subject of a major UKCGE conference in Sheffield and work continues to both support and empower students, while ensuring that universities are fulfilling their roles as public institutions.

The second strand will explore career pathways for PhD candidates. We will be looking at how doctorates can prepare students for jobs outside the academy and how to encourage more applicants from non-traditional backgrounds.

As usual we will be providing plenty of networking opportunities. We hope the workshop will help attendees to solve problems, develop new ideas and enjoy a collegiate atmosphere, while gaining plenty of tips on best-practice to take back to their home institutions.

Topics

  1. How to ensure equity, diversity and inclusion for PGRs, particularly those from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds.
  2. How doctorates can prepare students for jobs outside the academy and how to encourage more applicants from non-traditional backgrounds.
